JAMMU, Dec 31: After holding high-level review of security situation and developmental works of Jammu and Kashmir in back-to-back meetings in New Delhi few days back, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be meeting top BJP leaders from the Union Territory next week to discuss political situation and issues of the people.
“The high-level meeting was in fact scheduled to be held this afternoon but was postponed due to certain unavoidable circumstances and next date will be communicated to BJP UT chief Ravinder Raina in next couple of days. The meeting is likely to take place next week now,” insiders told the Excelsior.
Only seven to eight senior BJP leaders from Jammu and Kashmir will be called for the meeting. However, prominent BJP leaders from New Delhi would also join, they said.
They added that prevailing political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, further strengthening of the BJP in the entire UT especially in the areas where the party has less presence and schedule of national BJP leaders for holding rallies will be discussed in the meeting.
However, some UT BJP leaders will also raise the issues pertaining to daily wagers and need based workers, Rehbar employees, Kashmiri migrants engaged under the Prime Minister’s package and Reserved Category staff posted in the Valley among others as all these employees and workers have regularly been holding protests outside the BJP headquarters in support of their demands.
These issues, as per the insiders, have already been brought to the notice of the Home Minister, BJP president JP Nadda and other senior functionaries of the Government and the party by the UT BJP leaders and two BJP general secretaries Tarun Chug, Incharge Jammu and Kashmir and Dilip Saikia, who had visited the UT recently. They were reported to have briefed Amit Shah on different aspects of situation in the UT including issues of the people and non-local employees posted in the Valley.
The UT BJP leadership has been tackling protests outside their offices by assuring them that their issues will be taken up with concerned authorities and functionaries and efforts will be made to find out a solution to them.
As per the party leaders, schedule of the visits of some senior Government functionaries and party leaders to Jammu and Kashmir would also be discussed during BJP leaders visit to the Union capital.
On December 28, the Union Home Minister met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and heads of various paramilitary forces, MHA officials and DGP Dilbag Singh to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir including anti-militancy operations and Security Grid. He was reported to have issued series of instructions to the paramilitary and police officials in further containing remaining militancy in Kashmir.
The next day, Shah reviewed development works, measures to boost economy and flagship schemes of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh at a Conference on Union Territories in the capital along with other UTs.
Now, he will review political situation in the UT with top leadership of the BJP from Jammu and Kashmir along with Incharge party leaders and other senior functionaries.
“The meeting would follow tours of the Government functionaries and senior BJP leaders to Jammu and Kashmir, beginning with two-day tour of BJP general secretary (Organizations) BL Santosh,” the insiders said.
They said the BJP high command wants to strengthen the party in the areas where it has less presence especially the Kashmir valley and some majority community dominated Assembly constituencies in the Jammu region. The party is of the view that it is in quite comfortable position in 30-32 Assembly segments of Jammu division and it should now strengthen itself in the Valley.
