KATHUA, Dec 31: Three people were killed and one person was injured when a Kathua bound vehicle in which they were travelling skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Bani in Kathua district late past night.

As per reports, a Maruti Suzuki EECO bearing Registration Number JK02BR 5834 was on the way from Bani to Kathua late alst night. When the vehicle reached at Ghara Morh it slipped on slush and Bajri on the road and fell into 300 feet deep gorge near Sewa river on Bani- Basohli road. All four were working in a private telephone company and were posted at Bani. They were on way from Bani to Kathua late last night when the ill fated vehicle met with the accident.
Three persons were killed on the spot and one person got injured. He after hard efforts, however, managed to reach the roadside and informed the passersby about accident who later informed local people and police.
The injured was shifted to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Bani for treatment where after giving first aid to him he was shifted to Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
After getting the information of accident, rescue team including police and local volunteers rushed to the spot and shifted the dead bodies after hard efforts to the roadside. The deceased have been identified as Ajay Kumar of Billawar, Mohan Lal and Kaku Ram both residents of Doda while the injured has been identified as Rajesh Kumar of Hiranagar. The dead bodies were shifted to SDH Bani for postmortem and legal formalities.
Bani police has registered a case and started investigations into matter. The local people said that due to worst condition of road accidents often take place on it and many precious lives were lost in past accidents also. They said most of time people do not start rescue operation due to shortage of required equipment, crane and rescue teams.
The local residents of the area also accused the administration as well as Traffic Police for not maintaining a proper check on speed of vehicles. They said the vehicle had left Bani late last night at about 10 pm and the accident took place at 10-30 pm. But people and police came to know of the same in the morning due to lack of communication.
