KATHUA, Oct 26: Minister of State for Fisheries, Cooperative, Finance and Planning Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today said that Government was striving hard to ameliorate the socio-economic condition of the people of neglected areas, adding that Panchayats are proving instrumental in bringing a discernible change in the rural development profile.
The Minister was addressing a public meeting at village Kalunta of tehsil Billawar after laying the foundation stone of a Panchayat Ghar at village Derly, to be completed with an estimated cost of Rs 20 lakh. He also laid foundation stone of three room additional block at the newly upgraded Government Middle School Nallani. The building will be constructed under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) at an estimated cost of Rs 7.45 lakh.
The Minister appealed the people not to fell prey to the nefarious designs of anti social elements who want to disrupt the secular democratic fabric, communal amity and religious harmony of the state.
Dr Manohar Lal Sharma also attended Public Grievance camps at Kalunta and Nallan and listened to the problems of the people.
Representatives of Lakhdi, Aglidhar, Sialana, Derly, Kunnu and Jungle projected their problems and demanded immediate redressal.
The main demands raised included early completion of water supply schemes, increase in ration quota, digging of horticulture borewell, payment of MGNREGA payments, completion of PMGSY roads, opening of Anganwari centre at Uppar Kunnu, health centre for Derly, Animal And Sheep Husbandry centres and 4 hand pumps.
