POONCH, Jan 5: In an attempt to bring back the out of School Children into the mainstream education system, the Department of School Education Poonch has asked the Zonal Education Officers and Principals of District Poonch to go to slum areas and near bus stands and make attempt to bring the children of labourers from other states back into the education mainstream.
Bishamber Dass, Chief Education Officer Poonch visited slum areas located near Sher-e-Kashmir bridge and identified such children. This is the first time that the department is carrying out this ambitious exercise to bring back the children of migrant workers to the mainstream education system.
On the first day of the visit the CEO Poonch along with Viney Mohan Suri and Members of District Resource Group Poonch visited slums near Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge Poonch and motivated the migrant labourers about the benefits of education in the present scenario.
“Most of the members of migrant families remain at work during the day and their children either indulge in child labour or in other unproductive activities, so keeping it into the consideration, the Department of School Education has decided to identify all the out of schools children residing in slums in Poonch district,” CEO said.
“We are trying to identify each and every never enrolled or children who deserted school to provide them education at their door-steps. The initiative would also reduce child labour in Poonch district. Special counselling sessions are also being organized in their slums,” CEO said.
He further added that some dedicated teachers are being identified to provide them education at their doorsteps in the slums and the children are also being provided free books and other related essential material.
Harish Sharma and Darshan Kumar, Members of District Resource Group also accompanied the visiting officials.
