Police foils bovine smuggling bid, rescues 4 animals

KATHUA, Jan 5: Kathua police under the overall supervision of SSP Kathua, R C Kotwal today foiled bovine smuggling attempt at Nagri Parole area, rescued four bovines and seized two vehicles involved.
Police said a team led by Sub Inspector (SI), Ravinder Singh in charge Police Post (PP) Nagri under the supervision of DySP Headquarters, Kathua, Shammi Kumar during naka checking duty at Nagri Parole area noticed two suspicious vehicle (Mahindra Load Carriers) bearing Registration Number JK08C-9446 and other bearing Registration Number JK08L-3782 enrouted from Punjab towards Nagri in connection with smuggling of bovines which were being driven by two unknown persons who were signaled to stop for checking. On seeing naka party drivers of both the vehicles managed to run away from the spot.
Police said during checking of the vehicles four bovines (one cow along with one calf in each) were found loaded in them illegally. Thereafter the police team was able to rescue four bovines and seized the vehicles involved. By taking the cognizance a case FIR No. 01/2023 U/S 188/IPC has been registered at Police Station, Kathua and further investigation has been set into motion accordingly.
