JAMMU, Oct 27: The divisional administration has prepared the papers of 86 villages for handing over 135 feet wide corridor to the Border Security Force (BSF) for further fortification of International Border with Pakistan by using modern technologies and to thwart in much better way the repeated infiltration attempts from across the border.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that about one and half year back the Ministry of Home Affairs had taken a decision to further fortify the International Border with the Pakistan by constructing 180 kilometers long bandh in Jammu sector and accordingly the State Government was approached for handing over 135 feet wide corridor to the Border Security Force all along the International Border in Jammu.
“The Border Security Force wants to create bandh all along the International Border and multi-tier obstructions between fencing and bandh by making use of modern technology in order to maintain hawk’s eye on each and every activity near the fencing”, they said. “This 135 feet corridor will be put to use in such a way that even after crossing the fencing the infiltrators remain trapped in this corridor”, sources added.
After carrying out detailed exercise spread over several months by deputing field functionaries of the Revenue Department, the Deputy Commissioners of Kathua, Samba and Jammu identified the villages along the International Border where land will be handed over to the Border Security Force for further fortification of border, sources said.
Out of 118 villages where 135 feet wide corridor will be provided to the BSF for further fortification of International Border with Pakistan, 72 falls in Jammu district, 17 in Kathua and 29 in Samba district. The total area, which will be handed over to BSF in these districts, is 8648 kilometers.
“Till October 18, the administration has prepared revenue papers in respect of 86 villages—44 in Jammu district, 16 in Kathua and 26 in Samba district”, sources said, adding “out of these 86 villages the BSF has authenticated the papers of 77 villages——39 in Jammu, 16 in Kathua and 22 in Samba districts while as the papers of remaining villages have been received in the office of the Divisional Commissioner for No-Objection Certificate”.
As far as Jammu district is concerned, earlier revenue papers in respect of 55 villages were prepared but after verification revenue papers in respect of 44 villages found correct and others were returned back for preparing the documents as per the alignment after joint demarcation, sources said.
Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner Kathua had approached the Divisional Commissioner’s office for shifting the Border Fencing to Zero Line in two villages namely Londi and Bobiya. However, this was not accepted by the BSF and now the DC has been directed to prepare the documents and submit the same as early as possible.
“In district Samba, revenue papers in respect of village Galad (Sadoh) authenticated by the BSF are pending for want of NOC from the concerned MLA while as revenue papers in respect of Chak Sarda, Sehal, Chhajwal are pending for some clarifications”, sources said.
