JAMMU, Jan 10: The District Magistrate, Jammu, Avny Lavasa, has invoked section 144 to make it mandatory for the landlords in Jammu district to furnish the property details of the tenants to the concerned police station.
A decision in this regard was taken in view of the rising instances of anti-social/anti-national elements seeking hideouts in the residential areas in the guise of tenants/domestic helpers.
“I consider the threat posed by such adverse elements as imminent danger to the public safety and security that warrants immediate preventive measures under section 144 of CrPC,” read the order issued by the District Magistrate, Jammu.
“Now, therefore, by virtue of powers vested in me under section 144 of CrPC, I, Avny Lavasa, District Magistrate, Jammu, do hereby order and require all landlord(s), owner(s) of properties, attorney holder(s), person(s) incharge of properties in any capacity (hereafter called as owners) located in entire jurisdiction of the District to submit without fail the detail particulars of the tenant(s) to the concerned police station, either in person or by registered post addressed to the concerned SHO, within three days of the issuance of this notice,” ordered the DM, Jammu.
The Deputy Commissioner has also ordered that the owners who have already let/sub-let/rented out their house(s) or part(s) thereof to any tenant(s) on any date prior to the issuance of current order, shall submit the detailed particulars of the tenant(s) with immediate effect.
“It is clarified that all arrangements of letting or sub-letting the property like PG, tenants etc., shall be covered by this order,” the DC Jammu ordered.
“Owners who have allowed jhuggies in their lands shall also be required to disclose the details,” the order issued by DM Jammu further read.
Meanwhile SHOs in Jammu district have been asked to maintain a separate register for such purpose.
“Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under section 188 of the IPC,” ordered the DM, Jammu.
