CITU submits memorandum to Chief Secretary on various issues

JAMMU, Jan 12: State President CITU, J&K, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami submitted two memorandums to the Chief Secretary J&K about demands and issues facing Anganwadi workers, Helpers and construction workers.
In the memorandum, various issues confronting Anganwadi workers and Helpers who are serving ICDS since long on meager wages, were highlighted, which included enhancement of their wages and to reconsider the decision of retiring these poor workers’ after 60 years of age without any pension, gratuity and disengaging workers married outside Panchayat wards taken in recently announced HR policy.
Regarding Kashmir Construction Workers Union, it was pointed out that the Union body has amended the constitution and subsequently forwarded pro worker amendments to the Labour Commissioner who is also Registrar of Trade Unions for attestation. “But the same has been pending in his office for the last two years. He was approached many times but instead of attesting constitution, forwarded the file to the law department for legal opinion. Despite legal opinion in the Union’s favour, the Labour Commissioner is creating unnecessary hurdles without any justification,” reads the memorandum, adding that the Union is cooperating with the administration for guiding, helping, awaring in the registration process of poor construction workers with the Board to avail benefits from the social security schemes to fulfill the mission mode project of the Government started by Lt Governor.
In the memorandum, Chief Secretary was urged to intervene into the matter for redressal of grievances of the construction workers.
