Govt duty bound to secure people, not make them homeless: Rana

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Jan 12: Additional spokesperson of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Zeeshan Rana while criticizing Govt has accused it of rendering the people homeless by carrying out the anti-encroachment drives.
He said that the incumbent Union Territory Administration has crossed all the limits on all fronts thus creating miserable conditions for the people who have been left to fend for themselves. He expressed this in response to the Government’s directions to all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure 100% removal of encroachments from State land including Roshni and Kahcharai by the end of current month and submit compliance report.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Commissioner/ Secretary to the Government, Department of Revenue, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri has directed all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that all encroachments on State land including Roshni and Kahcharai land are removed to the extent of 100% by January 31, 2023.
In a statement issued to media here today, the National Conference leader reminded those in governance that the first and foremost duty of the government is to secure the lives of the people rather than making them homeless under the guise of one or the other law. He said the government has completely failed on the security front which is evident from the recent targeted killings in Dhangri. He said that it is an irony that by bringing in the land laws the Govt is using the same arbitrarily to deprive the selected lot of people of shelter thus paving the way for pushing them into miserable conditions whereby it would be difficult to survive especially during the harsh winter conditions.
Rana said that the BJP led Govt at the Centre through its proxy administration in J&K has fiddled with all the laws of the erstwhile State especially the land laws. He said that instead of making the life of its own people comfortable, the Govt brought these laws to allow people from outside to own land by putting J&K on sale.
Accusing the BJP of indulging in opportunistic politics, Rana said the land law and rules of present dispensation smacks of its cheap politics and deceit.
