JAMMU, Jan 12: Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER, organised a workshop for the teaching faculty on phonetics.
The resource person for the workshop was Rajesh Singh Rathore, Principal JK Public School, Kunjwani and President, Jammu Sahodaya Schools Complex. Rathore is a versatile and skilled professional with excellent hands-on experience in developing communicative skills among educators.
The workshop was aimed at equipping teachers with the knowledge and skills required for the development of children’s early phonological awareness and achieving success in literacy. The resource person talked about the phonic stages, learning the letter sounds, formation, blending and identifying sounds in words. Further, he said that English has a complicated spelling system, it is important to teach letter sound mapping in a systematic way, beginning with simple letter sound rules and then moving onto more complex ones.
Dr Pramod Kumar Srivastava, Principal, said that phonetics should be taught to students from a very young age and should also be considered as a major part of school curriculum. The workshop was coordinated by Manjari Sehgal, Manager Academics.
