People demand removal of encroachments from State land

KATHUA, Oct 29: A high drama prevailed in the border village of Manyari near Pansar in Kathua district today as the people who had grabbed over 150 kanals of State land there protested against the Territorial Army jawans for installing the camp in the area.
According to reports the jawans of Territorial Army visited the area in the morning to install the tents their for establishing a temporary camp and it was objected by the land grabbers who had established their tents  there after migrating from other districts.
Later the village Sarpanch Rakesh Kumar also came to the spot asking the land grabbers to vacate from the area as the land is meant for grazing of cattle. However they did not budge and thrashed the Sarpanch also.
The issue was brought in the notice of Revenue officials and police which rushed to the spot and removed some  tents of the land grabbers to create space for Territorial Army to establish its camp in the area.
Reports said that in addition to it, 300 kanals of State land has also been grabbed by some land grabbers from other district in Pansar village in the district.
The people in the border belt feel scared in view of the militancy acts and have demanded that the status quo of the State land be restored in the district by removing all encroachments as there is any apprehension that these land grabbers can prove a security risk as anti social and anti national elements can take refugee in these camps easily.
