Student ends life following out of syllabus paper

SRINAGAR, Oct 29: The mathematics paper set by Board of School Education (BOSE) allegedly forced a 12th class student to end his life in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district this morning while scores of students of 12th class along with their parents today protested against the BOSE for setting “out of syllabus paper”.
A 12th class student Irshad Ahmed Shah, son of Nizam-u-Din, resident of Sehpora Ganderbal consumed poison this morning. Reports said that Irshad was disturbed since last evening after appearing in Maths paper.
Irshad, a student of Boys Higher Secondary School Soura was one of the bright students in the school.
He consumed poison in the morning and was rushed to Sub District Hospital Ganderbal where from he was shifted to SKIMS. Doctors at SKIMS declared him brought dead.
Police said that they are waiting for the post mortem report to confirm the actual cause of death.
In the meantime, students of various schools of 12th class accompanied by their parents protested against BOSE at their office in Bemina for alleged out of syllabus paper.
The Secretary to Board of School Education, Renu Goswami said that a three member expert committee has been constituted to probe the matter and this committee has been directed to submit its report within three days.
“If it is proved that paper was out of syllabus, the paper setter will be banned and the students will be compensated,” Goswami said.
Another 12th class student, Shahnawaz Wani, of Kakroosa Handwara has fled from home ahead of examinations. His family has lodged a missing report with police.
The Private Schools United Front (PSUF) condemned the BOSE for what it alleged marring the career of thousands of students by setting a tough and out of syllabus maths question paper. They described it as a conspiracy against the students.
