JAMMU, Jan 14: As part of ongoing ‘Road Safety Week-2023’ under Swachhta Pakhwada, a series of awareness-cum-sensitization programmes on Road Safety were held by Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Jammu, Pankaj Bhagotra here today.
The first programme was a symposium competition at Government Degree College Paloura where about 200 students were made aware about Road Safety, traffic rules and regulations.
In his address, the RTO urged the students to be responsible citizen and asked them to follow Traffic Rules to ensure safety while driving on the roads.
He also threw light on Good Samaritan Law during the event.
Winners of the competition were felicitated by the chief guest.
The symposium was followed by an awareness rally by NSS volunteers in which the students raised Road Safety slogans and made the locals aware about Road Safety.
The second programme was a health cum eye check-up camp held at Mini-Bus Stand, Channi Himmat in which about 150 drivers and conductors participated and were given medical checkup and they were also made aware about personal health and hygiene.
They were further informed that such camps will be organized on regular basis and will include general body check-up especially sugar, blood pressure and eye check-up of drivers.
This was followed by distribution of helmets to commuters by the RTO and his team.
About 50 people found riding two wheelers without helmet were given helmets in the special drive.
The programme ended with carrying out of enforcement drive by the team of MVD officials at various Chowks of the city.
During the drive, two vehicles which were found plying without HSRP were booked and a fine of Rs. 1.88 lakh was realized on the spot from traffic violators.
The awareness programmes were attended by ARTO BoI (P), Esha Chib; ARTO HQ, Mohd. Saleem; ARTO FS, Taramani Sharma; MVIs Ranjeev Bhasin and Anupam Ghandotra.
