Restrictions on Geelani lifted

SRINAGAR, Oct 29: State Government last night lifted the restrictions around Hyderpora residence of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani during the night.
The heavy contingent of Police, which had erected tents and had placed mobile bunkers just outside the main entrance of Geelani’s residence, were removed last night.
Police was heavily deployed outside Geelani’s residence on March 7, as he returned from New Delhi after Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru’s execution.
The Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, expressed happiness over the removal of restrictions around his residence. Geelani said that the State Government faced lot of criticism and pressure from judiciary and human right organisations about his continuous house arrest.
Geelani, however said: “It is to be seen, how long the State Government allow me to continue my peaceful political programmes. I will again start my campaign.”
The Hurriyat (G) chairman is likely to visit Sopore on Friday to address the people. He is also likely to visit the residence of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru on the same day.
