JAMMU, Oct 29: The Law School, University of Jammu in collaboration with Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust organised eighth Inter-University Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial debating contest on the topic “The age of Juvenility should be lowered in case of heinous crime against women”.
The prestigious Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trophy was lifted by The Law School, University of Jammu. The first and second positions were secured by Kritika Sethi and Parkhi Parihar, both from The Law School, Jammu University, whereas the third position was claimed by Arshiya Qasba of Department of Law, Kashmir University.
On the occasion, the jury members who adjudged the performance of the students were Dr Monica Sethi, Associate Prof from Department of English, University of Jammu, Dr Shweta Gandotra, HoD Psychology from Gandhi Nagar Women College and Dr Kavita Suri, Associate Prof, Department of Life Long Learning, University of Jammu.
On the occasion, Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu was the chief guest, who distributed prizes to the participants and the winners.
Prof Neelam Saraf while speaking emphasized on frequent organisation of such debating competitions for students which gives them an opportunity to display their potential.
Aparana Kuthiala, Trustee, Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust was the guest of honour, who presented the profile and gave an insight of the functioning of Justice Bodh Raj Sawhney Memorial Trust.
Earlier in his welcome address, Dr Arvind Jasrotia, Director, The Law School highlighted the achievements of the students in various spheres and gave an overview of the forthcoming events.
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Organising Secretary of the event presented the report of the debate, whereas Dr Monica Narang conducted the proceedings of the valedictory function.
Dr Sanjay Gupta, Academic Co-ordinator, The Law School, University of Jammu presented vote of thanks.
Among others present on the occasion were Dr Pankaj Srivastava, Dean Students Welfare, Prof JPS Joorel, President JUTA, Prof Y Magotra, Former Director, The Law School, Dr Deepti Gupta, Assistant Professor, The Law School, Dr Seema Sharma, Assistant Prof, The Law School, faculty members, staff and students.
In the competition, students from various law institutes from northern India participated. The key out stationed teams which participated were from the diverse law institute namely Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, Amity University Rajasthan, University Institute of Legal Studies, Shimla, BPS Mahila Vishvavidyalaya Khanpur, Haryana, University of Kashmir, MD University, Rohtak, Haryana, GNDU Amritsar, University Institute of Legal Studies, Punjab University regional centre Ludhiana, Ideal Institute of Management and Technology, Indraprast.
Besides these the students from local law institutes like Dogra Law College, Jammu, KC Law College and The Law School, University of Jammu also participated.
