SAMBA, Jan 15: Provincial president of Apni Party and former minister Manjit Singh has warned the administration against eviction drive in border belt of Samba district.
Addressing a worker’s meeting at Rangoor village in Ramgarh constituency, Manjit Singh said that the eviction notices to the people is an unfortunate part of the insensitive administration.
“They first helped these farmers to cultivate their land along the border with the help of Border Security Force (BSF) and then the order has been issued to these farmers that their land will be evicted. What will they do with the land by displacing the marginalized farmers? Is it a welfare state?” he asked.
He said that the authorities are insensitive towards the human tragedy with regard to the eviction of economically weaker sections as they will have no source of earning and many will lose their houses. Manjit was addressing a meeting organized by youth wing leader Naveen Choudhary.
Referring to the worse condition of Displaced Persons, he said that the Government should release the pending financial compensation of Rs 25 lakhs in favour of the DPs which was sanctioned and released by the Government of India. Manjit said that the compensation of Rs 5.5 lakh was also not released in certain cases and the files of such cases were still pending before the concerned authorities.
The former minister demanded that the DPs of 1965 and 1971 be given ownership rights on the land they were allotted after their displacement from their native villages following hostility between India and Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Sahil Bharti also spoke on the occasion and addressed the meeting while highlighting the issues of the people in Rangoor village. Prominent among those present on the occasion include Bachan Choudhary (block president), ex-sarpanch Natha Ram, Captain Ajit Singh (Naib Sarpanch) and Mangat Ram (district president, youth wing).
