SRINAGAR, Jan 16: All Jammu Kashmir OBC Welfare Forum in its meeting at Anantnag today held under the chairmanship of Ghulam Hassan Shergojri demanded that 27 percent reservation quota for the OBCs of J&K be implemented on the basis of castes and not on the basis of economy and status. It further demanded that reservation be given to OBCs in Panchayats, Municipal Councils and Assembly so that the justice is done towards these socially stigmatized and neglected communities.
The meeting said the members of J&K OBC Advisory Board have already been nominated two years back but till date their verification has not been completed which needs to be done at an earliest. They said that though Government had assured early action in the matter but till date nothing has been done in this regard.
It said though two hostels for OBC children one each in Kashmir and Jammu Divisions were constructed but till date they have not been made functional nor children were given admission which shows the callous approach of Government towards the OBC people.
The meeting further said that despite the clear-cut directions and guidelines in the reservation Act/Rules the authorities are adopting harsh methods and unnecessary procedures while issuing the certificates to the concerned eligible candidates, which need to be streamlined as per the guidelines of the Act/rules.
The meeting showed concern over the style of functioning of the certificate issuing authorities of Kupwara and Langate in this regard.
