JAMMU, Jan 17: All the three Sub-Ways in Jammu have been locked since long after some illegal activities were witnessed there.
These paths under the heavy traffic road were constructed for moving to the other side of the road near Kala Kendra, Digiana and in Gangyal.
An elder said that locks from the Sub-Ways should be opened so that the public may use them to move to the other side of the heavy traffic road safely.
A young lady Saima said that these Sub-Ways should be opened as elders have to cross road otherwise with difficulty.
Still another young student said that action should be taken against those who do wrong activities in the Sub-Ways but locking these is no solution.
“Police should install CCTV cams in Subway along with lights so that wrong doers can be caught,” he maintained.
Many other people also have similar concern and they urged the authorities concerned to open the locks of these Sub-Ways and put these to public use as doing so may also reduce road accidents also.
When contacted JMC Deputy Mayor, Baldev Singh Billawaria said that these Sub-Ways were constructed by PWD which has so far not handed over the same to JMC for maintenance and operation.
“About Rs. 1.25 crore was spent on one Sub-Way works for which was started in 2014 and completed in 2016,” he informed adding that unfortunately these Sub-Ways are of no benefit to the common public today as these are locked.
He said that initially these were in put to use but as illegal activities started in it these paths the authorities concerned locked these.
“JMC will try to get these open again,” he claimed.
