SRINAGAR, Jan 17: An infant was found dead today in the mother’s womb soon after the delivery at the Emergency hospital in South Kashmir’s Qazigund.
The incident is being termed as medical negligence of the doctors at the hospital by the family members of the patient.
Shaboraza Akhtar, the pregnant wife of Showkat Ahmad Bhat from the Khushipora neighbourhood of Kulgam, was being treated by a doctor at the emergency hospital Qazigund, according to family members.
They stated, “On Monday, we brought her to Qazigund Emergency Hospital where Dr Nelofar advised us to come back tomorrow.”
They said that when they arrived at the hospital today at 9:00 am, the patient was undergoing delivery surgery.
“Even the physicians advised us to buy clothes for the baby, but after a short while, we learned that the baby had been dead in the womb for four days,” they claimed.
“If the baby was dead in the womb, how was she not notified on Monday and how was the life of our daughter also put in danger? We demand justice because it shouldn’t happen to anyone else. After all, our sister’s nine months of pregnancy were in vain.”
They claimed that the infant had injuries on his body and died as a result of the doctor’s negligence at the emergency hospital in Qazigund.
They demanded that the problem be looked into right away and that the doctors implicated face consequences.
Dr Shugufta Salam, Medical Superintendent (MS), Emergency Hospital, Qazigund, stated that a committee has been formed for investigation.
She said, “I reassure the family and everyone that a fair investigation will be conducted in this regard and anyone found guilty will be dealt with as per the law.”
