“The area is close to the forest and after frequent militant sightings, four-five unsuccessful operations have been launched. As far as investigation is concerned, we have got some solid clues and the arrests will be made shortly. I hope that the success will be achieved soon,” he said.
The DGP said there are no inputs of a possible threat to Rahul Gandhi-led ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and that adequate security will be provided to the march when it reaches the Union Territory.
“The Yatra will enter Jammu from Punjab in a day or two. For a few days, the march will be in different districts of Jammu and then it will enter the Kashmir valley.
“The Yatra will be in Kashmir for three to four days. We have discussed that in the security review meeting. We have discussed the arrangements at the range-level and the district-level. Whatever security measures need to be taken, they will be taken,” Singh told reporters here.
Asked if there was any threat input about the Yatra, he said: “There is no such input.”
To a question on whether the Yatra will be allowed on foot, he replied that it will be regulated in such a manner that people do not face any inconvenience.
“These things will be regulated because there is traffic and other things. A huge yatra can cause inconvenience to people as roads can get blocked. This is a Yatra and is taken both on foot as well as using vehicles,” he said.
“Our endeavour will be to take forward the march with vehicles wherever there is a single road, and in rest of the places, the participants may be advised to walk on foot where the roads allow,” Singh said. He asserted that the Yatra can be “guided from the security point of view as well wherever it is needed”.
Singh said that a meeting regarding RD and BJY security was held today in which top officers participated.
“A high-level meeting of top police and security officials was held in which security arrangements for smooth conduct of upcoming Republic Day and Bharat Jodo Yatra were discussed. The final touch was given to security arrangements pertaining to upcoming Republic Day and Bharat Jodo Yatra”, he said.
“The main character behind terrorism in J&K and other parts of the country from across the border is being exposed at international level. The measures are being taken to tighten up the process against the involved people and notify them as terrorists. The profile of these persons is also being sent to the different organizations working against the terrorism,” he said.
Earlier in the day while addressing the officers at the Police Control Room Srinagar, the DGP complimented them for successfully achieving various goals which were set for the year 2022, he enjoined upon them to rigorously follow basic policing methods including human intelligence generation, record keeping and maintenance of Registers at Police Stations as per Police Rules.
“The action against terror ecosystem must be carried forward meticulously and in a coordinated manner. Although JK Police along with other forces have got successes across Jammu and Kashmir against the militants, stringent actions against the terror support system, narcotics and narco terror modules should be continued with an aim to bring an end to it,” the DGP directed.
