JAMMU, Oct 30: Panun Kashmir today demanded that  Government should declare the Accession Day falling on October 27 as “State Day” as it was on this day that the State of J&K acceded to Union of India legally and Constitutionally.
The demand was made at a press conference by PK president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo along with PK Political Affairs Committee, chairman M L Raina and National spokesperson Virender Raina here.
The day should also be declared as gazetted holiday by the Government and in case the number of holidays will increase by this then the holiday on July 13 be cancelled, he added.
Mr Chrungoo said the Day should also be observed with great fanfare across the State so as to acknowledge the sacrifices made by the brave Indian forces. There is also a need to send a message about the facts of the history to the younger generations by observance of this day in an appropriate manner.
Expressing satisfaction over the recent celebrations of Accession Day for three days by the people across Jammu region, he said the manner in which the day was celebrated this year by various political, social and cultural groups indicates the increased awareness generated regarding the importance of the Day.
He said PK has been in forefront regarding awareness campaign in this regard right from 1990.
He said PK also views with dismay the interview of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah regarding the so-called Ireland /Scottish type settlement of the Kashmir issue and urged Mr Abdullah to avoid making such controversial statements in future which have a tendency to give fillip to fissiparous tendencies in the State.
He said the time has come when the sensitive State matters need to be delinked from expression of populist sentiments and vote bank politics. By virtue of his statement CM has put himself and the other secessionist forces on the same page. PK in coming days would launch an awareness campaign to sensitize the national opinion about the dangers in this regard.
Mr Chrungoo reiterated his appeal to all concerned to provide details regarding any encroachment, annexation or usurpation of temple and shrine land or any other property to the leaders of Joint Forum of KP Organizations.
