Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘India plans 14 strategic railway lines near China, Pak border’ DE Oct 28.
As the situation is developing in our neighbourhood, it has become necessary that the Central Government in tendem with concerned State Governments embark on creating necessary infrastructure for defence forces who are facing multiple challenges from Pakistan and China.
Both China and Pakistan have been constructing roads and railway lines near border to provide quick logistic support and movement of troops in case of a war. China is quite far ahead in this effort. As it is reported from time to time, that defence proposals usually get stuck in the files of bureaucrats. The construction of roads through forest areas has usually to get clearance from Forest Departments. It takes pretty long time to do so and becomes a cause for delay in executing projects in a time frame.
To overcome this lengthy process, the Government should constitute a special cell for this purpose which may take care of such modalities.
India cannot afford slackness in this vital sector. Every effort has to be made to protect the country’s boundaries.
Yours etc….
Sunil Sehgal, Jammu
