JAMMU, Oct 31: VHP at a function observed the birthday of former Home Minster of India, Sardar Patel at a function organised at Shakti Ashram here today.
All the activists of VHP and Bajrang Dal (BD) attended the function and paid glowing tributes to Mr Patel-the iron man of India.
The function was chaired by VHP State chief, Dr Rama Kant Dubey.
Speaking on the occasion, he said Sardar Patel was a great visionary, a steadfast, a great statesman and patriot by core whose name will go down in golden letters in Indian history.
He, while recalling the role of Sardar Patel in making merger of 562 Princely states into India possible, said this was a challenging task which he accomplished without any difficulty.
Dr Dubey said that Sardar Patel had a clear vision about China and had informed before hand Pt Nehru about the Chinese invasion and annexation of Tibet. He said that former Home Minister never approved Pancheel and was opposed to it. He said it was he who made accession of Hyderabad, Junagarh and Goa possible into India without knowledge of Pt. Nehru within a night.
He said Pt. Nehru had agreed with him and not deputed former Chief Minister of J&K Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah to UN Security Council in 1949 instead of Girja Shanker the then incharge of Foreign Affairs the Sheikh could have not been able to hobnob with US Secretary of the State there. This forced Nehru to recall him immediately as the report leaked, he added.
Dr Dubey said that Sardar Patel had developed differences with Pt Nehru and it was the reason that he had expressed his willingness through a letter to Mahatma Gandhi to resign from the Cabinet on January 12, 1948.
