*DGP reviews situation in Rajouri

JAMMU, Jan 24: Police is close to crack major terror module in the border district of Rajouri which was instrumental in planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) while four youth from Bafliaz and Surankote in Poonch district have been picked up for questioning in connection with Narwal terror strikes.
Meanwhile, senior police and Army officers today held high-level review of security situation in Rajouri and discussed measures to neutralize militants and Over Ground Workers (OGWs), who are active in the district.
Even as police officers declined to comment on arrests and detentions made in connection with recovery of IEDs in Rajouri and two blasts at Transport Nagar in Narwal recently, sources confirmed that a breakthrough has been achieved as far as recovery of the IEDs was concerned in the border district.
“Two to three persons have been captured but their sustained interrogation was on to ascertain identity of their mentors, source of delivery of explosive devices and the targets they were assigned in the district,” sources said, adding their identity has been kept secret as some of their contacts are at large.
They, however, clarified that the module involved in placing IEDs at different places in Rajouri district was different from the one which executed killings of seven civilians at village Dhangri. Investigations carried out by the police revealed that two militants who struck at village Dhangri on January 1 killing seven including two minors were confirmed Pakistani terrorists though their exact identity hasn’t been established so far. However, the code names on which the militants were operating are with the police.
Sources said four suspects have been detained by the police at Sunderbani naka of Rajouri district and shifted here for questioning in connection with two blasts at Narwal in which nine civilians were injured.
One of them hailed from Bafliaz and three from Surankote.
Police, however, declined to confirm the detentions.
Meanwhile, Director General of Police, Dilbag Singh today visited Rajouri, where he chaired a high level meeting of Army, Police and CRPF officers to review the security scenario of the district. He was accompanied by ADGP Jammu Zone Mukesh Singh.
The meeting among others was attended by GOC 25 Division Major General Y S Ahlawat, GOC Romeo Force Mohit Trivedi, senior Intelligence officers, DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Dr. Haseeb Mughal, SSP Rajouri Mohammad Aslam, SSP Poonch Rohit Baskotra, CO IRP 2nd battalion Randeep Kumar, Second-in-Command CO 72 Bn CRPF, ASP Rajouri Vivek Shekhar and all Gazetted Officers of the district.
Addressing the meeting, Dilbag sought the progress of investigation regarding the Dhangri incident and directed for looking at all the angles and work out involvement of all the anti- national elements and terrorists wanted in this heinous crime.
He emphasized on utilizing modern technology and human intelligence to monitor the suspect movements on borders and as also in the hinterland to prevent anti-peace incidents.
The DGP directed for intensifying the operations with all might to track down the involved terrorists. He also directed for stringent action against each and every individual who has provided any support to terrorists in executing the cowardly attack.
The DGP directed for further strengthening the security grid by conducting Naka checking and joint patrolling besides ensuring the area domination. He stressed for following SOPs laid down in this context. He stressed for keeping strict surveillance on cross border narco trade saying that elements from across the borders are using it for terror financing besides targeting youth of Jammu and Kashmir. He directed for strict action against the element found involved in anti-peace activities and narco-trade.
Singh stressed for enhanced coordination among security forces; Army, Police and CAPFs which, he said, has been the cause of success on the anti-terror front. The DGP said that during the recent past, security forces have had tremendous success on the anti-terror front and stressed for further strengthening the synergy between the Police and security forces so as to track down the remaining terrorists.
“We have to continue our commitment towards the mission peace to consolidate the growing peace in J&K,” he added.
He directed the police personnel to be friendly towards the general public which would help in good policing. Giving thrust on grievance redressal, the DGP directed for ensuring fast and efficient disposal of public grievances and added that Thana Diwas is an effective imitative in this direction.
The officers present in the meeting briefed the DGP regarding the security scenario of the district. He was also apprised about the progress in the Dhangri terror incident and various anti-terror measures.
