5 yrs RI to accused in attempt to murder case

JAMMU, Nov 1: Principal Sessions Judge Poonch Jaffer Hussain Beigh today awarded five years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 10,000 to one Shakoor Ahmed, who was facing trial in attempt to murder case for the last 9 years. Court also issued arrest warrants against another accused namely Mohd Iqbal.
According to police case, on August 23, 2004 the accused persons had attempted to kill Mohd Sakinder and brutally assaulted Mohd Farooq and Shamima Akther over a trifle issue.
After hearing Public Prosecutor Nazir Hussain for the State whereas Advocate Raja Mohd Abbas Khan for the accused persons, Principal Sessions Judge convicted Mohd Shakoor and Mohd Iqbal and awarded five years imprisonment to Mohd Shakoor.
About another convict, the court said, “Mohd Iqbal remained continuously present throughout the proceedings of trial till the conclusion of final arguments but on the date of announcement of judgment he remained absent. He is to be heard on the question of sentence so non bailable warrant for his arrest is issued which shall remain in force until it is executed and accused is brought before the Court”.
