JAMMU, Jan 28: A farmers awareness- cum- interaction programme under the chairmanship of District Level Subject Matter Specialist, Sandeep Gupta was organized by Horticulture Department, Khour at Panchayat Troti of Block Khour wherein PRI members besides large number of farmers of the area participated.
While addressing a gathering of farmers Gupta educated them about the various schemes for plantation of fruit crops to establish orchards with the assistance of the department. Since, spring season is approaching and this is the most suitable time for plantation of fruit crops, he asked farmers to come forward, associate with the department, keep a close liaison with the field functionaries and take maximum benefit of the departmental schemes.
He urged farmers to adopt integrated farming in their fields and avail the benefits on different components viz: Bore well, water harvesting tanks, Drip irrigation, Mechanization, protected cultivation, tools and implements etc. for upliftment of their socio- economic status.
Earlier, HDO Khour Amit Saraf elaborated in detail about the various Centrally and UT sponsored schemes of the department. He also briefed the farmers about the technical aspects of fruit plantation and importance of Horticulture sector in employment generation.
