JAMMU, Jan 30: Omkar Nath Trisal a veteran political leader who performed a leading role during Pak raiders invasion in 1947 as a National Conference (NC) activist and fostering bonds of amity among the people of different communities in Kashmir breathed his last today after a prolonged illness. He was 98.
During the Pak raiders attack he was chosen by NC as one of the four political commissar to meet the challenge of Pakistan led tribal raiders and he played a key role at that time in restoring the confidence of people.
Trisal was also a close associate of former Chief Minister , Ghulam Mohammed Sadiq and has worked in DNC and Congress shoulder to shoulder with him. He was a very good orator and a debater. However, he was shocked after the mass exodus of his community members in 1989 and 1990 and spread of insurgency in Kashmir. This was a turning point in his life and he actively participated in community struggle and was one of the champions of creation of a separate homeland in Kashmir for the settlement of Kashmir Pandits in Valley. He remained closely associated with Panun Kashmir till his last breath and was one of the protagonists of homeland.
His cremation will take place at Shastri Nagar Cremation Ground at 3 pm tomorrow. He is survived by one son and one daughter.
