Srinagar, Jan 31: The residents of Roni Mohalla Kalan in Mir Behri of Rainawari area are facing frequent electricity woes due to the insufficient capacity of the power transformer installed in the area.
The locals said that the area has more than 60 households and it was given a 250 KV Transformer in 1998. “It was sufficient at that time but now there has been a manifold increase in households in the last 25 years,” they said.
The aggrieved residents said that there are frequent bursts and snags in the transformer due to which the electricity supply becomes erratic, which, they said has turned their life miserable.
“In the recent snowfall the people were forced to spend the nights in bone-chilling cold and darkness and children had to study under candle lights,” the locals said.
The residents said that there is an immediate need to replace the transformer with a 500 KV transformer or other measures which would provide the residents with relief from the issues they are facing.
“We urge the concerned to look into the matter; either the capacity must be increased, or two 250 KVs transformers should be installed which can cater to the needs of Roni Mohalla Kalan as the present transformer has been repaired hundred times in the last 25 years,” the residents said.
