JAMMU, Jan 31: J&K Nationalist People’s Front (JKNPF) today announced that it will launch a people’s movement to demand more water for the people of J&K.
JKNPF will be asking for just allocation of water resources as per Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and an equitable distribution of water between the two nations.
“Water is a basic necessity and it is imperative that the people of J&K receive their fair share,” said chief patron of JKNPF, Sanjay Kumar.
“We believe that IWT must be upheld and people of J&K must get their fair share of water resources,” he said.
A handout stated that JKNPF will involve a series of events and activities aimed at raising awareness about the importance of water access and the need for a just allocation of water resources.
JKNPF president, Shiekh Muzzaffar said that they will also be working closely with local communities to gather support for the movement and to ensure that their voices are heard.
He said that people of J&K have suffered for too long without access to sufficient water resources and it is time for their voices to be heard and their rights to be respected.
