JAMMU, Feb 1: As an outreach to the visually impaired children and a step forward in the direction of inclusivity and integration, Co-founder of Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation Dr Ritu Singh today launched a digital literacy program titled ‘Roshni’ for the visually impaired children at Delhi Public School (DPS) Jammu.
The Project was launched in collaboration with JIGER Foundation chairperson Dr Sandhya Dhar and her team in order to enhance the educational standards of the visually impaired children of Jammu and to bring the light of digital literacy in their lives. The outreach program has been aptly named as “Roshni” which symbolizes knowledge.
DPS Jammu will provide the necessary support and infrastructure to successfully implement the Program in the form of the state of art Computer Lab and transport facility for the visually impaired under the aegis of ‘Prayas’ which is the social outreach program of the School aimed at bridging the gaps in the society by helping the underprivileged.
The technical launch on the computer was done by Surinder Raina (Manager, J&K Grameen Bank and member, JIGER Foundation) by installing the screen reading software on the computer systems which will help the visually impaired to effectively use the computer systems easily in future.
The Program started with the ‘Ganesh Stotra’ before the ribbon cutting ceremony, followed by a very motivating talk delivered by Dr Ritu Singh. She said that the outreach program ‘Roshni’ aims to impart training to the visually impaired children to help them become self-dependent and to enhance their employability skills for their better future.
Also present on the occasion were Vishakha Bhan (coordinator JIGER), Akash Dhar, Arun Kumar and Arjun (members from the JIGER Foundation) and Principal and staff members of DPS Jammu.
