GMC Kathua conducts another total hip replacement surgery

JAMMU, Feb 5: Another “Total Hip Replacement Surgery” was performed totally free of cost under Ayushman Bharat Scheme (PMJAY) at Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua.
The 26-year-old Patient was suffering from Avascular Necrosis (AVN) of Head of Right femur for last several years leading to severe pain and deformity. He finally visited Department of Orthopaedics in GMC Kathua where Uncemented Total Hip Replacement (THR) was performed by Dr Rishabh Gupta (Assistant Professor and Incharge HoD) along with his team.
Dr Rishabh Gupta was supported by Anaesthesia team which was led by Dr Sanjay Kalsotra (Professor and Head) and Dr Rajesh Angral (Associate Professor). The Surgery, which would have cost Rs 2.5 to 3 lakhs in a private hospital, was performed totally free of cost under Ayushman Bharat scheme (PMJAY). The surgery was conducted under the guidance of Principal GMC Kathua Dr Surinder K Atri and supervision of MS Associated Hospital, GMC Kathua, Dr Sangita Ajrawat.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rishabh Gupta said that Department of Orthopaedics, GMC Kathua is regularly performing such complicated orthopaedic procedures and more than 150 patients have been operated till date under Ayushman Bharat scheme (PMJAY).
