JAMMU, Feb 9: Class work in Mata Vaishno Devi University was temporarily suspended following a clash between two groups of students, in which three persons sustained injuries.
The trouble erupted last evening when two groups of students from BBA and MBA had verbal dual over some petty issue, which soon turned into a violent clash on the campus. Two students and a security person of the university sustained minor injuries in the clash.
To control the situation, university administration immediately called Police force even as no case was registered against any student involved in the clash.
The situation once again turned tense this afternoon when a number of students boycotted their classes and started protesting for strict action against those involved in the attack. They alleged that some faculty members were shielding the accused.
To avoid further trouble, the university authorities ordered suspension of class work for the next three days and assured the protesting students that strict action would be taken against those involved in the clash.
When contacted, SMVDU Registrar Dr Nagendra Jamwal told the Excelsior that a strict disciplinary action would be taken against those responsible for the clash. “We have initiated the action and identified all those students involved in the last evening incident who were summoned by the Disciplinary Committee today,” he said, adding that after recording statements of witnesses and others, strict action would be taken.
