Higher Edu Council envisages path-breaking initiatives under NEP: Prof Dinesh

JAMMU, Feb 14: Vice Chairman, J&K Higher Education Council (JKHEC) and former Vice Chancellor Delhi University, Prof Dinesh Singh said that the Higher Education Council envisaged path-breaking in initiatives under New Education Policy-2020.
It was stated by him during the Council meeting held at University of Jammu, here today.
Recognizing the wisdom and spirit of ancient ‘Mimansa Philosophy’ which states that knowledge without action is meaningless, he emphasized upon highly innovative undergraduate programs and stated that these programs shall enable true education.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a proposal of running a train christened “Gyaanoday Express: College on Wheels” for more than a 1000 students of J&K and Delhi on a journey of 15 days that shall enhance innovative learning. These students shall be selected on the basis of group based projects that shall be connected to various aspects of the journey. These projects shall also deal with the culture, economy, history and entrepreneurship of the places of halt.
The journey shall take the students to various places of learning treating the world as a university. The journey shall include visits to Delhi University, Sabarmati Ashram, Gujarat Vidyapeeth, Surat and INS Vikrant at the naval dockyard of Mumbai as well as the entrepreneurial activities of Goa, ISRO and IISc Bengaluru and the Gandhi Ashram at Wardha.
The students shall submit detailed project reports at the end of the journey, the Vice Chairman emphasized.
Other deliberations included a host of ideas dealing with development of best practices and high-end innovations under “Goonj” reflective reverberations of the institutions of J&K, entrepreneurial programs, engineering kitchens, development of trans-disciplinary four-year new degree program, pedagogy trainings, innovation projects, skill based programmes etc.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu emphasized upon continuous evaluation and appreciation of the learning process of the student. It was also resolved to develop a detailed road map for a formal Higher Education Executive Council.
Prominent persons including Alok Kumar (IRS), Principal Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department J&K, Prof. Nilofer Khan, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir, Prof. Shakeel Ahmed Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University Awantipora, Prof Akbar Masood, Vice-Chancellor, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Prof. Bechan Lal, Vice-Chancellor, CLUJ, Prof. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges Jammu, Prof MM Chaturvedi, University of Delhi, Prof. Naresh Padha, Dean Academic Affairs JU, Abdul Majid Bhatt, Director Finance, Sushil Khajuria, Additional Secretary Jammu, Ashu Gupta, Joint Director and Dr Ashwani Hansa, Under Secretary, HED were present during the meeting.
