JAMMU, Feb 15: Jammu University Officer’s Welfare Association (JUOWA) today elected its office bearers.
The elections for the posts of office bearers of JUOWA were held today at University of Jammu where Dr Sumita Sharma (Deputy Registrar, Academics and Academic Affairs) won the straight contest by defeating Vivek Slathia (Deputy Registrar, Examinations). Dr Sumita got 18 out of total 39 votes polled whereas Vivek Slathia got 17 and four votes were declared invalid.
In the contest for the post of vice president, Dr Saranpreet Broca (Deputy Registrar, DDE) got elected by securing 25 votes whereas Aftaab Ahmad got 11 votes. Dr Pankaj Khajuria and Manoj Kumar were elected unopposed as general secretary and treasurer, respectively. Dr Bharat Bhushan, Kuldeep Raj, Rainoo Bhai, Jeevan Singh and Sham Lal were elected executive members.
Prof Jasbir Singh from the Department of Economics was the election commissioner and Dr Hema Gandotra from Sociology Department was the returning officer. Others who assisted the election process were Ashwani Kumar (officiating president, JUOWA) and Dr Shallu Sehgal.
