RAJOURI, Feb 15: Releasing photos of two notorious drug smugglers, one from Rajouri and one a resident of Mendhar in Poonch district, DIG Rajori- Poonch Range, Dr Haseeb Mughal has declared both the notorious smugglers as wanted and announced appropriate reward to the person giving their information.
The DIG said that Rajouri police had registered a case against three notorious smugglers in FIR No. 40/2023, in which one smuggler was arrested while taking action, but two smugglers were absconding. He said Kafeel Qazi, resident of Rajouri and Haseeb Khan, resident of Mendhar, Poonch, are absconding for some time and both of them have been declared wanted and those who give information about them will be given appropriate reward and their identity will also be kept secret.
Dr Mughal said that a special campaign was launched in Rajouri and Poonch border districts to curb drug mafia i.e. drug smuggling, due to which 82 FIRs have been lodged in Rajouri and Poonch border districts in the last one year. Of these, 35 FIRs have been registered in Rajouri district and 47 in Poonch district.
In these two FIRs, strict legal action has been taken against 97 smugglers in both the districts and they have been arrested. Apart from this, preventive action has been taken against about 375 small-scale drug addicts or drug peddlers in Rajouri- Poonch districts, out of which 155 are in Poonch and 220 in Rajori.
The DIG further said that while taking action against notorious smugglers, NDPS PSA has been imposed on 4 smugglers in Rajouri while NDPS PSA on 3 notorious smugglers in Poonch and they have been sent to jail for one year.
