Agri Deptt organises training prog on fodder development

REASI, Feb 17: Agriculture Department organised an orientation-cum-training programme on the theme “development of fodder resources for UT of J&K” here at the DC Office Complex Reasi on Friday.
As per a statement, the main objective of the programme was the capacity building of the field functionaries and farmers in order to increase the fodder production in Jammu and Kashmir.
The programme was attended by the officers and field functionaries of the Agriculture Department, Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department and scientists from KVK Reasi.
Chief Agriculture Officer Reasi, Harbans Singh, who presided over the training programme, said that the department is encouraging the establishment of fodder depots at village level as Government is giving 50 percent subsidy this with maximum ceiling of Rs 10 lakh.
Dr Lalit Upadhyaye, scientist, KVK Reasi also stressed on rejuvenation and promotion of Silvi-pastoral system and preservation of fodder of pasture lands.
On the occasion, it was said that 15 lakh tonnes of fodder is consumed by livestock in highland pastures for 8 months.
“There is a need to preserve and protect the pastures. The strategies that are required to be adopted to pursue the objective include fodder production, processing and value addition, and varietal improvement and crops diversification,” the speakers said in the programme.
