JAMMU, Feb 17: BIS J&K branch organized an exposure visit for students of Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 here at its branch office and industry in Bari Brahmana.
Objective of the visit was to make students quality-conscious by giving them exposure to a BIS-certified manufacturing unit.
The students first visited M/s Sabas Foods India Pvt Ltd, Birpur where they witnessed the manufacturing and processing of packaged drinking water.
Quality testing as per Indian Standard was shown and explained to the students by the quality control personnel.
Later, the students visited BIS J&K Branch Office and were apprised of the role of BIS in protecting rights of consumers through standards and conformity assessment.
They were made aware about the ISI Mark Scheme which provides a third-party guarantee of product quality, safety and reliability to consumers.
The processes of Standard Formulation, Product Certification, Hallmarking, System Certification, Foreign Manufacturers Certification Scheme, Compulsory Registration Scheme and Testing & Calibration Services were explained to the students. After this the students visited Referral Assaying Laboratory of J&K BIS branch for witnessing the testing of gold samples and procedures.
The students also learned to download the Indian Standards through the BIS e-portal ‘Know Your Standards.’
