MENDHAR, Nov 7: A trader was robbed of rupees one lakh cash and thrown out of moving Sumo by the driver and his two associates on Surankote-Mendhar road in district Poonch this afternoon.
Reports said the incident took place near village Fanwarha Nad under Gursai police jurisdiction. A trader Mohd Tariq, son of Mohd Iqbal, resident of village Marha in Surankote hired a Tata Sumo No. JK-12/6977. He had collected some cash from the shopkeepers of the area and intended to go to Mendhar for the same purpose. He and driver were travelling towards Mendhar. Two more persons, known to the driver also boarded the vehicle. The trader objected but the driver told that they were also drivers and will drop ahead in the nearby area.
But when the Sumo reached near Fanwarha Nad, the two associates of driver took out some sharp edged weapons and asked the trader to hand over the cash. The trader resisted and the scuffle started. They beat up the trader and finally snatched his cash ( Rs one lakh). They threw down the injured trader and fled. Later, they abandoned the vehicle and escaped.
The trader informed Police Control Room, Poonch and the near by Gursai Police Station. The police party reached the spot. They also traced the Tata Sumo abandoned on the road and started search for the driver and his two associates. A case has been registered in this connection. The trader told police that he could identify the highway robbers. However they were not be arrested till late this evening.
