J&K to impart skills to 9 lakh youth during 12th plan: Omar

JAMMU, Nov 8:
The State Government has fixed a target of imparting skills to nine lakh youth during the 12th Plan period, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said today.
“We are moving forward in this direction. However, during the course some re-designing or re-arranging may be required to suit the job market requirements for higher placement avenues,” he said reviewing implementation of the State Skill Development Mission.
Omar said the success of the skill development mission can only be realised when placement of these youth and utilisation of their learnt skills is ensured, adding that this aspect is critical to the whole programme.
He said the State Government besides engaging private players has simultaneously focused on enhancing the existing training facilities to match requirements in the job market.
Omar laid special emphasis on imparting soft skills to youth across all training programmes to improve their communication skills.
During 2012-13, against the target of training 1.10 lakh youth, 88,440 have received skill development training in the State, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, B R Sharma said at the review meeting.
They have been imparted training in sectors of Micro & Small Scale Industry, Vocational and Technical Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, Information Technology, Animal, Sheep Husbandry, Tourism and Health. (AGENCIES)
