SRINAGAR Feb 24: A family from Handwara town in North Kashmir was shocked after receiving a whopping electricity bill of Rs 7, 000 for just one month.
According to the family members, this amount is a huge jump from the Rs 800-900 they have been receiving for the last few months. “The bill has skyrocketed after the installation of the new electricity meter. Both the reading and the bill are fake,” said the family.
The family alleged that the bill was fake and that there had been some tampering with the electricity meter. They also alleged that they were approached by a PDD department employee who suggested that they pay a bribe of Rs.1500 rupees to get the electricity meter readings reduced.
The PDD has taken note of the matter and is investigating the issue. Officials have assured that if any employee is found guilty of any wrongdoing, strict action would be taken against them.
The affected family has requested the higher ups of the PDD to look into the matter.
