JAMMU, Feb 25: Five persons, including four from Kashmir and one from Delhi, were arrested with fake currency notes worth Rs 2.15 crores and Rs 5 lakh Indian currency notes along with three cheque books here today
One of the accused, Nazir Ahmed from Barzulla, Srinagar, had earlier spent 6 years in Tihar Jail in a militancy case registered by Delhi Police, where he came in contact with another accused, Mohammad Naimulla, who is from Delhi.”Their further plans are being investigated,” police said.
A police spokesperson said that the accused, Nazir Ahmed son of Mohammd Jabbar of Barzulla, Srinagar; Riyaz Ahmed son of Abdul Gani of Sheikhhar, Pulwama; Mohammad Naimullah son of Mohammad Zaheer-ul-Haq of Dwarka, Delhi, Manzoor Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohammad of Nishat Srinagar, and Basit son of Ghulam Hussain of Shopian, were arrested acting on specific information received by Police Station Bahu Fort through reliable sources.
“Soon after receiving the information about some people carrying low-quality Indian currency notes for illegal purposes, a team of Police Station Bahu Fort led by SHO concerned, Inspector Nayat Ali assisted by incharge police post Narwal, SI Lalit Kumar and incharge PP Bathindi, PSI Shakeel and PSI Adarsh Kant, laid a special naka near Kargil Colony, Bathindi area,” he said.
At the naka, he further said, police teams rounded up five suspects, who were travelling in a vehicle (HR26CQ-5653).
During search of the vehicle, the police spokesperson added, Rs 5 lakh Indian currency notes along with 3 cheque books and around Rs 2.15 crore low-quality Indian currency notes were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Police have booked the accused in case FIR number 71/2023 under relevant sections of the law registered at police station Bahu Fort and started further investigation.
Pertinently, the overall operation was done under the supervision of SDPO East, Syed Zaheer Abbas Jafari and SP South Mamta Sharma.
