FIR lodged against SP MLA for attempt to murder

BAREILLY, (UP), Feb 27:
A case has been lodged against Samajwadi Party (SP) MLA Ataur Rehman and three others on charges of attempting to kill a youth in Baheri area of Bareilly district here in Uttar Pradesh, a senior officer said here on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhilesh Kumar Chaurasia said that the case against SP MLA was lodged at Baheri police station on the basis of evidence late on Sunday night.
Police sources said that in his complaint Anees Ahmad, a resident of Singauthi village, has alleged that during a dispute over a piece of land on Saturday morning Rafiq Ahmad and Raees Ahmad along with their armed accomplices entered his house and assaulted him.
Police sources said that Anees has claimed that on Sunday afternoon the MLA called both the parties at his office for mediation. “Anees has said that he sent his brother-in-law Asim Khan, a resident of Shahgarh, in his place. He has alleged that at Ataur Rehman’s office Asim was locked in a room and was thrashed by Rafiq and Raees along with the MLA,” they said.
Police sources said that the complainant has alleged that Asim was also attacked with a knife several times. “Anees has alleged that when he went to look for Asim, he too was assaulted and the accused opened fire on him when he fled from the spot,” they said.
The SSP said that a case of attempt to murder and other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been lodged against SP MLA Ataur Rehman, Rafiq, Raees and Asim, son of Rafiq at Baheri Police station, “Injured Asim Khan has been admitted to the hospital. Further action in the case will be taken after investigation,” he said.
When contacted MLA Ataur Rehman said that both the parties themselves came to his office and returned when they failed to reach an agreement. “The allegation of assault is false,” he said. (UNI)
