Police foils major bovine smuggling bid, rescues 205 animals

SAMBA, Feb 27: Police have foiled major bovine smuggling attempt and rescued 205 bovines. FIR has been lodged at Police Station (PS) Samba and investigation started.
Samba police had organized special mid night patrolling and nakas along Basantar river to check illegal and suspicious movements in the area specially during odd hours of night. During patrolling, alert police personnel observed suspicious movement of bovine smugglers carrying 205 bovines at Basantar river bed near Shah Balode, Samba and rescued them.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Samba said that total 16 bovine smuggling attempts have been foiled by police, 16 FIRs registered and 266 bovines rescued by Samba police within one and half month. However, directions have been issued to the subordinate officers to smoothly allow seasonal movements of nomads along with cattle who are in possession of proper permission from the competent authorities.
