PUC for minimizing T&D losses

JAMMU, Nov 11: The Committee on Public Undertakings (PUC) of Legislative Assembly today directed the Power Development Department (PDD) authorities to gear up their field functionaries and minimize power thefts beside Transmission and Distribution losses. It also asked them to register all illegal and un-registered connections and improve the billing system.
The Committee, which met under the chairmanship of MLA, Mohammad Sharief Niaz at Legislature Complex Assembly Hall, discussed and examined the functioning of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) and PDD.
Threadbare discussion was held on various ongoing construction works of minor and mega power projects of the State.
Legislators, Ghulam Nabi Monga, Dr. Shafi Ahmed Wani and Indu Pawar attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions for further improvement of JKSPDC.
The Committee stressed for recovery of pending power tariff bills from Government Departments. It also stressed for launching a campaign about misuse of electricity.
It was decided in the meeting that the Committee will conduct on spot inspection of some power units in Chenab valley, Poonch and Rajouri districts soon.
The meeting was attended by Principal Accountant General, J&K, Dr. S. C. Pandey, Principal Secretary PDD, A. K. Mehta, Power Development Commissioner, Mehraj Ahmed Kakroo, Director General Accounts and Treasuries Jahangir Hussain Mir, Special Secretary Assembly,  M. R. Singh and other officers of PDD, JKSPDC and Assembly Secretariat.
