Prof Neelu Rohmetra gets Fulbright-Nehru Administrator’s Award

JAMMU, Nov 11: Professor Neelu Rohmetra, Rector Kathua Campus and Director, International Centre for Cross-Cultural Research and Human Resource Management, University of Jammu, has become the first Professor and the Academic Administrator from the State of Jammu and Kashmir to get coveted USIEF Fulbright-Nehru Administrator’s Seminar Award.
She has been selected as the Fulbright Grantee for the year 2013 on the basis of national competition. A total of 10 Professors/Administrators were selected from the Premier Institutes of the country including Delhi University, Central Universities, IITs, IIMs etc and Prof Rohmetra was the only Professor in the Management discipline to have won this fellowship for the year 2013.
The 2-week Fulbright -Nehru Administrator’s Seminar from October 18 to November 1, 2013 focused on sensitizing and creating awareness amongst the participants to the whole range of issues related to higher education including internationalization of higher education, study abroad programmes, exchanges, research collaborations, fund raising, community service, extension, organizational  setups, issues in inclusion and the diversity, admission and career services for the students, civic engagement and experiential learning, global engagement, student services, accreditation issues and quality concerns, on-line education and MOOCS, skills development and vocational training, minority and STEM education.
During this high profile seminar, the selected seminarians visited Universities and Institutions in Washington DC, Chicago and Lincoln and Omaha, Nabraska. The interactions were held with Presidents, Chancellors, Vice-Chancellors, Deans and Directors of these institutes to gather a feel about the American higher education priorities and the concerns across disciplines ranging from liberal arts, history, humanities, business, environment, science and technology, law, life -long learning and extension and outreach.
The Universities visited included Northwestern University, Chicago, University of Illinois Chicago, Lake Forest College, Chicago, University of Nabraska at Lincoln and Omaha, Institute of International Education (IIE), Washington, Council for International Exchange of Scholars, Washington, American University, Washington, George Mason University, Washington, John Hopkins University, Washington, University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) Maryland, Baltimore City Community College, Montgomery College, Montgomery.
The Embassy of India in Washington DC in US also hosted the formal reception in honour of the Fulbright delegates, wherein Taranjit Singh Sandhu, Deputy Chief of Mission in USA was present, besides the CIES, IIE representatives, and the officials of the US State Department.
Pertinent to mention here that Professor Rohmetra has also been conferred with the ‘Excellence in Education Award’ during the World Education Congress at Mumbai in June 2013. As the Post-Doctoral Commonwealth Alumni and the accomplished Management Educator, The British Council nominated her to the panel of 14 -member delegation from India to UK in September 2013, to deliberate upon the issues in internationalization of higher education in South Asia. The close dialogue took place across political, academic and industry interface between the delegates from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India and the UK. She is regular presenter during the international conferences of University Forum for HRD in UK and Europe, and Academy of HRD, USA. She serves on the Editorial/Advisory Boards of various international referred journals.
