JAMMU, Mar 4: The Institution of Engineers (India), Jammu Centre in collaboration with the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) Jammu today celebrated the World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development with theme-“Engineering Innovation for a more resilient world”.
The event was attended by Engineers from various Departments, organizations and senior Engineers along with members of the Committee of IEI, Jammu local centre. The day is celebrated worldwide on 4th March every year since 2020 as a UNESCO International Day of Celebration of Engineers and Engineering.
On this occasion, Sandeep Seth, Chief Engineer, JPDCL Jammu was the chief guest and Major General (Retd)S K Sharma, Director MIER Group of Institutions, was the guest of honour, whereas Dr Bhawna Sharma, Chairman, IEI Jammu Centre presided over the function. Sunil Kumar Pachar, Director, Ecolive Ventures Pvt Ltd, Gurugram was key note speaker.
At the outset, Dr Bhawna Sharma introduced the relevance of the day to the audience. She said that there is a greater need for reimagining the cities with innovations in health, agriculture, energy, waste management, industrial and infrastructure development for a more resilient world. Sustainable technology is an umbrella term that describes innovation that considers natural resources and fosters economic and social development.
While speaking on the occasion, Major General (Retd) S K Sharma stressed that the earlier slogan of “Perform or Perish” has been replaced by “Innovate or Perish”. He said that organizations and engineers who do not devote time on research shall perish. He sought that engineers need to identify problem areas including inefficient processes and find ways to solve them by innovating new or better methods to improve efficiency of the system.
Sunil Kumar Pachar, in his address, highlighted the need of the ecologically viable engineering solutions for sustainable development of mankind.
During the seminar, Er P K Nanda, MIE; Er Joy Ganjoo, AM Technologist; Er Lovneesh Talwar, HOD Electrical Engineering,YCET Jammu; Raghav Sharma and Rohin Sabherwal, Kashish Sharma, Ayush Dhotra, Ayush Thakur and students from MIET Jammu presented their papers.
Er Sandeep Seth, Chief Engineer JPDCL Jammu, lauded the paper presenters and appreciated the efforts of the IEI Jammu local centre for organizing this event and improve public understanding of how engineering and technology are central modern life and for sustainable development.
Er Sachin Tickoo, MIE, Honorary Secretary, conducted proceedings of the event and also presented the vote of thanks.
