Special Lok Adalat on Matrimonial cases held across J&K

*224 cases resolved, Rs 51.1 lakh settled

JAMMU, Mar 4: As a part of the calendar of activities for the year 2023 prepared by J&K Legal Services Authority (JKLSA), a Special Lok Adalat was organized today throughout J&K, under the leadership Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh, and Patron-in-Chief JKLSA and under the guidance of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, JKLSA as well as Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairperson, High Court Legal Services Committee.
The focus for today’s Lok Adalat was on amicable settlement of Matrimonial disputes amongst the parties and to finally dispose of their cases on the basis of consensus arrived at between them to ensure immediate respite not only to the parties but also to their family members from the evils of litigation leading to unrest in the family.
As per the information received from various districts of J&K, a total of 669 cases involving matrimonial disputes were taken up by 65 Benches in the day-long Special Lok Adalat organized at various courts across J&K, out of which 224 cases were settled and finally disposed of. Besides, an amount of Rs 51,10,500 was awarded as compensation/settlement amount.
Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, Amit Kumar Gupta, while talking to media persons informed that this was the first Special Lok Adalat of Matrimonial cases in the current calendar year and as per the schedule of activities prepared for the current calendar year, the next Special Lok Adalat shall be conducted on April 15, focusing on quick settlement of Motor Accident Claim cases (MACT Cases) pending disposal in various courts of J&K.
He also exhorted the advocates in general and the claimants in particular to take maximum benefit of the Special Lok Adalats which are being organized by the J&K Legal Services Authority under the aegis of National Legal Services Authority. Gupta appreciated the efforts of all the Judicial Officers, Secretaries DLSAs, Advocates, staff of the district and tehsil courts as well as Legal Services Institutions besides litigants for their whole hearted participation in the Lok Adalat and settlement of cases in such a large number.
Meanwhile, a Special Lok Adalat on Matrimonial Cases was organized in District Kishtwar by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) under the supervision and guidance of Chairman YP Kotwal. The Bench constituted for the purpose consisted of YP Kotwal, Principal District and Sessions Judge and Mahmud Anwar Al-Nasir, Chief Judicial Magistrate. A total of 17 cases were taken up out of which 8 cases were settled amicably in presence of parties.
