JAMMU, Mar 5: One-day annual convention of Kashmir Sikh Sangat (KSS) was held today in the auditorium of Government Polytechnic College, Bikram Chowk, Jammu.
JP Singh (Retired IG and advisor to Chairman, National Minority Commission) was the chief guest of the convention while Captain Bana Singh (Param Vir Chakra) was the guest of honour.
While delivering the presidential address, KSS president Babu Singh highlighted the overall working or the organization, annual report and various steps being taken to mitigate the sufferings of the community in social circle. He appealed the members to be vigilant and do away with unwanted custom and cooperate with organization for building a healthy society.
The chief guest, in his address, emphasized that more and more stress should be given on education so that in coming years, the community youth can excel in competitive exam and up-root the menace of drugs which is deeply penetrating its roots in society.
Captain Bana Singh asked youth to come forward and work hard for a brighter future while Manajeet Singh stressed on the need of education as well as vocal education in present scenario and deliberated on the new education policy in place to be implemente
Ajit Singh Mastana appealed the UT authorities to restore the status of Punjabi in J&K while Prof Himmat Singh (Patiala University) highlighted the sacrifices and role of Sikh communities in independent struggle and development of state.
Ranjit Singh Sharhadi highlighted the suffering on the political front the Sikh community is facing and appealed the UT administration to give a sympathetic thought to the burning demand of Sikh community viz. special employment package for the unemployed youth of Sikh community of Kashmir Valley, implementation of Minority Commission and representation of Sikh community in PSC and SSB.
Dr Dhanwat Singh demanded that Sikh community be given representation in State legislature from both the regions of J&K so that the issues concerning the community can be highlighted and mitigated at right forum.
Concluding the function, meritorious students who excelled in the Board exam, sports persons and social workers were honoured with mementos by the chief guest.
