Rs 85,000 currency seized from PoK visitors

JAMMU, Nov 11: Authorities today recovered Rs 85,000 worth excess Pakistani currency from the possession of two visitors of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) when they crossed over to the Indian side in weekly cross-LoC bus on Poonch-Rawlakote route.
A total of 111 visitors crossed the Line of Control (LoC) today, official sources said.
Reports said authorities recovered Rs 50,000 excess Pakistani currency from Mohammad Zahoor son of Mohammad Sharief, a resident of Abaspur, PoK and Rs 35,000 excess currency from Shabir Ahmad son of Rashid Ahmad, a resident of Muzaffarabad, the capital city of PoK.
Authorities seized the excess currency from two PoK visitors but allowed them to proceed to the houses of their relatives to whom they had come to meet on this side of the divided Jammu and Kashmir. The excess currency would be returned to PoK civilians on their way back to the houses.
Under the rules for cross-LoC visits, a visitor can carry only a fixed amount of currency.
Meanwhile, a total 111 visitors crossed sides at Chakkan-da-Bagh LoC point in district Poonch today.
A record 76 guests arrived here from the PoK to stay with their relatives on this side of the Line of Control. But only three J&K visitors returned from that side of the LoC and equal number of 3 fresh Indians, crossed over to PoK today. Besides three fresh Indian, 29 PoK returnees also cross over to that side.
Sources said that nearly 3200 applications of the Indian visitors were pending with the Pak authorities for clearance. The LoC point opened between 1.42 and 2.15 pm today. Custodian Poonch Bashir Lone, DySP Sagar Singh Slathia from Indian side and SDM Hajira  Afzal Kiani facilitated the visitors.
