JAMMU, Nov 11: The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared the proposal of five corporate houses for training and absorption of 2055 Post Graduate and Graduate youths in Jammu and Kashmir under the Special Industry Initiative for the State.
The MHA cleared the proposal of five corporate houses after the Project Approval Committee in its meeting gave a nod to training and absorption of over 2000 youths of Jammu and Kashmir under `Udaan’ scheme, which was part of the Special Industry Initiate Scheme for Jammu and Kashmir.
The youths would be trained and absorbed in Banking services, Quality Engineering and Testing, Education and Skill Development and Finance and Accounting over a period of five years, official sources told the Excelsior.
Five corporate sectors, whose proposals the MHA has cleared for training and absorption of Jammu and Kashmir youths, included Ratnakar Bank, Counseillers-en-Gestion-et-Informatique (CGI) Group, Indian Overseas Bank, MC Grawhill Education and Genpact Limited.
“These five corporate houses would select 2055 Post Graduates/Graduates youth from Jammu and Kashmir after issuing advertisements in leading national and local newspapers of the State, give them advanced training in banking, quality engineering, education, skill development, finance and accounting and absorb the successful candidates,” sources said.
Only those youths, who have been registered with District Employment and Counselling Centres would be able to apply for the training and absorption, sources said.
“Under the Special Industry Initiative of the Prime Minister, the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) and Ministry of Home Affairs have been mandated to work with the corporate sector in bringing about a positive change in the employment and skills space of Jammu and Kashmir,” sources said.
They added that the Special Industry Initiative, known as Udaan, targets the youth of Jammu and Kashmir specially Graduates and Post Graduates, who are seeking global and local opportunities.
Udaan aimed to provide skills to 40,000 youth over a period of 5 years in high growth sectors, sources said, adding it has twin objectives that included providing exposure to Graduates and Post Graduates of Jammu and Kashmir to the best of corporate India and provide corporate India with exposure to the rich talent pool available in the State.
Sources said some more corporate houses have also been considering the proposal to pick up the youths from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir to train and absorb them.
During the current year, 15,000 youth of Jammu and Kashmir have to be imparted training and provided employment in private companies under Himayat. Nearly 7000 youth have been so far provided jobs under the programme.
“There are more than 1100 youth trained under Himayat working successfully in various companies outside the State”, sources said and added that while creating maximum jobs for the trained youth under Himayat within the State, the expanding outside job market for youth of J&K is also under active focus.
Sources said that the relocation allowance for youth working in companies outside the State under Himayat has been enhanced from Rs 1000 for two months to Rs 2000 for six months each employee.
Both Udaan and Himayat schemes were being periodically reviewed by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Union Minister for Rural Development Jairam Ramesh, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister for Rural Development Ali Mohammad Sagar.
